With the help of its 13 branch offices, the Social Security System (SSS) Luzon South 1 Division launched this year's Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) Campaign by concurrently sending written reminders to the region's delinquent employers.

According to SSS Vice President for Luzon South 1 Division Edwin S. Igharas, 45 employers received a severe warning for failing to register their businesses with the SSS, and 132 negligent employers in Cavite, Laguna, and Quezon received violation notices. Of these, 87 failed to pay P15.48 million in SSS contributions with associated penalties.

In times of need, workers rely on their SSS benefits for financial stability. In addition to breaking the law, employers who neglect to register their companies and pay their employees' contributions deny their workers the benefits they are legally entitled to, according to Igharas.

He underlined that SSS's commitment to following the law to protect local workers' rights is demonstrated by the RACE Campaign. "Employers must realize that accurate and timely contribution remittance is not only required by law, but also by morality.

Noting that business owners can benefit from current condonation programs and flexible payment terms, he clarified that SSS is giving these delinquent employers 15 days to work with their respective branch offices and settle their contribution delinquencies in order to avoid any legal repercussions.

“We are sending a clear message that SSS will take necessary actions to uphold the welfare of Filipino workers. We urge all employers to comply voluntarily and work with us in building a more secure future for their employees, he added.

He concluded that failure to comply may result in imprisonment of six years and one day to 12 years and or a fine ranging from ₱5,000 to ₱20,000. (Pau Dela Cruz)
