BATAAN- The AboitizPower, through private limited partnerships GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin (GNPD), signed two Memoranda of Agreement (MOA) with key government agencies, local government units, and people’s organizations during a ceremony at Villa Encarnacion Resort & Events Place in Orani, last March 23, 2026.
The first agreement covers the seven-year, Php 24-million Orani Mangrove Experimental Forest Project, expanding AboitizPower’s adopted mangrove area by 12 hectares in Brgy. Kabalutan in Orani and bringing its total adopted mangrove area to 32 hectares.
Signatories include DENR Region III Assistant Regional Director Ricky Hernandez, AboitizPower GMEC-GNPD Vice President for Corporate Services Andrea Mellind Madrid, Congressman Antonino Roman III, Orani Mayor Antonio “Jon” Arizapa Jr., and Tubo-tubo Fisherfolks Association Chairperson Rosana Laxa.
The second MOA extends the Sagip Pawikan Conservation and Protection Project, also known as Sagip PaWeCan, for another five years with a Php 13.4-million investment.
The agreement was signed by Hernandez, Madrid, Provincial Administrator Alicia Pizarro, Morong Mayor Leila Linao-Muñoz, and Sagip Pawikan Sitio Fuerte Association President Arnold Mendoza.
In her speech, Madrid underscored the importance of community partners, calling fisherfolk and conservation volunteers the “real VIPs” who are on the frontlines of protecting the environment and creating meaningful change.
She emphasized that beyond powering homes and industries, AboitizPower is equally committed to giving back to the communities it serves through initiatives anchored on its P.U.S.O. framework—Preserve the Planet, Uplift Livelihoods and Learning, Secure Social Infrastructure and Safety, and Operationalize Outreach & Health.
With a total investment of Php 37.4 million for both projects, AboitizPower reinforces its role not only as an energy provider but also as a responsible corporate citizen, working alongside partners to ensure the protection of natural ecosystems and the sustainability of coastal communities.
“Progress is not just about the power we generate, but the care and responsibility we give back—one mangrove, one pawikan, one community at a time,” Madrid said.(ROWENA CHAVEZ)
